A Nouwen Network welcomes you to our website.

Out of the depths is unique in that it is an Australian site solely for resources on the theme of mental illness ministry, prayer and spirituality. These resources have been presented like an anthology so they can be readily accessed by those needing them, whether those with a mental health concern, their families, pastors or support workers.

To give new hope. We trust that those visiting this site will know you are loved, accepted and supported in your journey with mental health concerns – however that particular journey has been unfolding.  One of our desires for this resource is for you to know that you are not alone in your journey, and that there are those in our churches who do care and who would like to be an encouragement to you as you go through your tough times and also as you experience the joys of life.

May all who visit Out of the depths be blessed, encouraged and inspired as you read (or quickly browse) the content.

The Comfort Cushion project:
A ministry of tenderness and prayer     CLICK HERE FOR PDF

Each Comfort Cushion is a gift of prayer and care for a person who has mental health issues affecting their life.

The Comfort Cushion is 20 cm x 20 cm (8’’ x 8’’) with a pocket into the back to hold a small card.

Each cushion is unique, and expresses something of the prayer and care that we long to give to those who are very unwell, and those who are most isolated.

Inspiring mental health ministry outreaches in Australia

It has been said that one of the greatest acts of pastoral care in the Advent season is to offer a service known as a Blue Christmas service. There are a great number of free resources for invitation cards, flyers and prayers available via the internet. (In the northern hemisphere the service is often called a “Longest Night” service.)
