Simple Christian prayers comfort and inspire those who struggle with worry and anxiety.

Many people experience anxiety, whether or not they have a diagnosed mental health condition such as Generalized Anxiety Disorder or Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. The following prayers — prayer for the anxious, prayer to stop worry, prayer for the loved ones of an anxious person, blessing for treatment of anxiety, and thanksgiving for freedom from anxiety — are designed for Christians who wish to invite God to bless and heal those who struggle with anxiety.

Struggling with repeated worries can be a real challenge. The following prayer invites God to calm and guide those who struggle with anxiety:

‘God of power, calm my mind. Let me rest in You. Ease my anxiety, and let me simply be- quiet and peaceful in Your arms. Amen.’

A Christian might offer this prayer for healing and strength. The phrase “God of power, calm my mind” might be repeated to combat anxious thoughts.

Another easy prayer to fight worries might be, “God of power, calm my mind. God of water, cleanse my mind. God of eternity, bless my mind. Amen.”

PRAYER FOR LOVED ONES OF AN ANXIOUS PERSON

Listening to an anxious person share his or her fears can be tough on a significant other, family member, or friend. The following prayer asks God to renew and strengthen those who support the anxious person:

‘God, grant me strength to be patient with [insert anxious person’s name]. Fill me with compassion, but let me walk away when I need a break. Please heal [insert anxious person’s name] in body, spirit, and mind, that he/she may live more and worry less. Amen.’

Blessing for Treatment of Anxiety

Some people may choose to undergo treatment, such as medication or therapy, for their anxiety. Others may make lifestyle changes, such as altering diet, exercising, or changing behavior, to decrease reasons to worry. The following prayer asks God to bless any step taken to ease anxiety and to bring healing and peace to those who worry:

“God of power, thank you that [insert anxious person’s name] is choosing to face his/her anxiety and attempt to heal by [insert specific treatment or lifestyle change, if desired]. Please bless [insert anxious person’s name] and everyone else involved in his/her journey of healing, especially [insert names of support group, such as therapist, pastor, or others]. May the light of Your love shine in [insert anxious person’s name]’s life. Grant him/her peace, now and forever. Amen.”

Thanksgiving for Freedom from Anxiety

A calm, relaxed mind is truly a gift. The following prayer thanks God for freedom from anxiety:

“We rejoice, God, that [insert anxious person’s name] is free from anxiety. Please continue to be with him/her and guide him/her, no matter what fears or worries arise. Remind [insert anxious person’s name] that he/she is Your beloved child, with whom You are well pleased. Amen.”

Anxiety can be a challenge to overcome. With prayer, the Christian can seek additional support from God in his/her quest for a calm, peaceful mind.
