IN EVERY NEED

Holy Spirit,
my Light, my Life, my Love, my Strength,
be with me now, and always:
in all my doubts, perplexities and trials,
come, Holy Spirit;
in hours of loneliness, weariness and grief,
come, Holy Spirit;
in failure and in loss, in disappointment,
come, Holy Spirit;
when others fail me, when I fail myself,
come, Holy Spirit;
when I am ill, unable to work, depressed,
come, Holy Spirit;
now, and for ever, and in all things,
come, Holy Spirit.

from the booklet “Devotions to the Holy Spirit” by Brian Moore, S.J., printed and published by the Society of St. Paul 1976.)

IF WE COME TO YOU

Eternal Spirit,who dwells in the hearts of those who seek You: if we come to You in joy, may we draw strength from the experience; if we come in sorrow, touch us with Your great compassion; if we have lost our way, and the darkness has overtaken us, may the light of Your presence appear before us that we may see our path; if we come to You weak and discouraged and know not where to turn, may we recall the resources You have given us. Illumine our minds with a vision of the future’s promise.

A. Powell Davies (1902 -1957)

PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

O Holy Spirit, give me stillness of soul in you.
Calm the turmoil within, with the gentleness of your peace.
Quiet the anxiety within, with a deep trust in you.
Heal the wounds of sin within, with the joy of your forgiveness.
Strengthen the faith within, with the awareness of your presence.
Confirm the hope within, with the knowledge of your strength.
Give fullness to the love within, with an outpouring of your love.
O Holy Spirit, be to me a source of light, strength and courage
so that I may hear your call ever more clearly
and follow you more generously.
