LET US PRAY

God of tenderness and compassion, hear our prayers for all in need or distress:
for the bruised and the bleeding, the sick and the dying;
for the confused, the despairing and all who want to end their lives;
for the lonely and all who grieve the loss of loved ones;
for all who find it hard to expose their own need.
Help us to bring consolation to the sad and relief to those in pain.
Merciful God, by your power,
restore us to life.

Janet Nelson: Let Us Pray: Intercessions Following the Revised Common Lectionary, HarperCollins Publishers Australia, 1999. p.211

A PRAYER FOR MENTAL HEALTH

Self examination: Soul searching God, preserve my self awareness lest I need to overcome negative, egocentric, maladaptive or unrealistic thinking. Help me recognise and use my positive potential.

Adversity: Dear God, my refuge and strength, teach me how to dismiss those little pinpricks. For larger difficulties, equip me with courage, adaptability, resilience and good humour. Help me accept what cannot be changed.

Serenity: Dear Prince of Peace, I plead for cool confidence to replace my frustrations. Teach me to express my feelings appropriately. Calm my fears and anxieties. Help me smile.

Relationships: Loving Lord, I want to be understanding, open, kind, gentle, forgiving and considerate towards others. In conflict situations, help me find ways to be assertive or collaborate more instead of feeling aggressive, too competitive or acquiescent.

Activity: Divine Pace Setter, guide me into good management of my time and energy and may my goals be realistic.

Guilt: God of Grace and Goodness, forgive my frailty. Help me to love myself and begin again to espouse your values.

Responsibility: Divine Guide and Co-worker, direct me towards healthy daily life choices and decisions for responsible ways of thinking, functioning and relating to others.

God connections: Loving Lord, thank you for being my confidant, comforter, motivator and power source.

Amen.
